The purpose of the Vision Department is to provide quality vision services to students, families and schools in Northwest AEA. Itinerant teaching and orientation and mobility services are available for blind and visually impaired students.
As part of the Statewide System for Vision Services, Iowa’s AEAs partner with the Iowa Department of Education, Iowa Department for the Blind, and Iowa Educational Services for the Blind and Visually Impaired to provide vision services to students who are blind or visually impaired. Vision Specialists, teachers of the visually impaired and orientation and mobility specialists, provide instruction in the Expanded Core Curriculum (ECC), a body of knowledge and skills that are required by students with visual impairments due to their unique disability-specific needs.
